Yesterday we lost Anne Jones from our Swoove family. She will be sadly missed.

Anne was quite the character. She had worked on Fleet Street as a journalist and then later for St Peter and St James Hospice. She was sharp and humorous and always had a glint of mischief in her eye.

In October 2013 she became Mrs Jones. I remember Esther playing “Me and Mrs Jones” during the cooldown after class, and there were bridal celebrations at the United Services Club.

After a three month break, she amazed us all by returning to Swoove after a hip replacement with fitness and vigour. She was truly an inspiration of mind over matter.

During the return to classes after COVID she lamented that she kept missing her usual space behind me in the King Edward Hall. So I made her her own blue plaque with the words “Anne Jones Swooves here. Get your own space!” She loved it. She told me “I knew you cared”. We did. We all cared.

The last time I saw Anne was at Elaine’s surprise birthday bash in July 2024. She was full of stories (and red wine). I’ve shared some additional photos from that event here.

Rest in peace dear Anne. You left us too soon, but your light shined brightly. We will remember you.

Anne is pictured here with Maureen Welfare, another Swoover, who sadly passed away just a few days before Ann, in July 2026

We hope they’ve made to an exercise class in the sky together
